The Hub
Styling the Community Hub at Sundale Retirement Village Coolum was an enjoyable challenge! The aesthetics of the building constructed by GSG Contracting persuaded me to keep in line with the timber look so choosing furniture with purpose and a little bit of a difference was key.
The restaurant & bar area was scattered with a mixture of round ash timber veneer and asymmetric tapered legged dining tables from Domayne Furniture, & generously sized rectangular raw timber ones form Eclectic Style Noosa, creating a communal dining experience as well as being visually interesting. Arm-less fabric olive, ash & beige dining chairs complemented the tables and were easy to stack away and move around when required.
A mix of dark & light grey 2 seat sofas & arm chairs from Focus on Furniture had a hint of a retro design to them & were set up with a gorgeous array of comfy cushions from Pillowtalk to encourage conversation when the media room was not being used for media purposes.
The Hub has a very large alfresco area which includes a portable fire pit and a few very impressive barbeques for the patrons to enjoy, it was important to make sure the furniture was both durable (weather resistant) and comfortable - my selection from Daydream Leisure in Warana meant that I could tie both the undercover and the exposed furniture into the one story. Accentuated with some vibrant green & cream cushions, the chocolate wicker looked fresh and kept with the natural tones of the building whilst bringing the outside in.
Continuing along the 'outside in' vein - with the help of Emma Sheldrake from Sheldrake Creative I was able to select some gorgeous art pieces which reflect the natural environment of the Hub without distracting from the practicalities required of the space.
The outcome was one of lightness, space and comfort for the community at Sundale Coolum Waters Retirement Resort to hopefully enjoy for years to come!
